Dear Families and Carers,
Winter has started in a flourish with a cold snap over the King’s Birthday long weekend. The ski season has officially started. There have been a few different illnesses raising their heads over the last couple of weeks. Should your child be sick, please keep them at home to recover.
School Parents & Citizens Association (P&C)
Our very small P&C are currently looking for support from parents and carers to join them in fundraising, special activities and other P&C objectives including:
1. to promote the interests of the school by bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into close co-operation,
2. to assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school and in promoting the recreation and welfare of the students at the school, and
3. to encourage parent and community participation in curriculum and other education issues in schools where there is no school council.
Kayla and Carrie as our President and Secretary, continue to work consistently towards positive outcomes for our school. Thank you to other parents who also support the P&C in certain activities, all support is greatly appreciated.
Carrie has registered us for the Local Matters Jar at Grill’d Charlestown – Grill'd's Local Matters program at the Charlestown location, supports community groups by donating $300 to the charity with the most votes. The Charlestown store provides tokens with each burger purchase, which customers can place in the Local Matters jars for their chosen charity. The program allows customers to vote for their favourite community group by placing their token in the corresponding jar. The charity with the most tokens wins $300, with the other two receiving $100 each. Once we know the date for this, we will pass the information on.
A fundraiser through Thompson’s Pies has also been arranged for the start of Term 3. There will be a variety of options available to purchase. The Office will send order forms home with students on the Monday of Week 10, 30th June. We will send out again on Wednesday of Week 1, Term 3, 23rd July as a reminder and in case you need an additional order sheet. The final orders are due Friday 8th August with orders arriving at school on the 21st of August. We will need parent support on the 21st of August to sort the orders as they need to go home the same day.
If you are interested in joining our P&C and can attend one meeting a term or help with the Thompson’s Pies fundraising orders on the 21st of August, please let myself or Office staff know, and we can pass your information on to Kayla and Carrie.
Attendance
Please remember to notify the Office staff should your child be absent from school – same day notification would be appreciated to save further follow-up. Following Department of Education guidelines, same day text messages will be sent to parents/carers should a student be absent from school. The school would like to support families in any attendance concerns or issues so please let us know if you need any support.
School Uniforms
Please remember to label all school clothing especially hoodies and jackets so items are returned to the correct owners.
Warmest Regards

From the Assistant Principals

Dear Families,
As we wrap up another wonderful term, we want to take a moment to celebrate the amazing learning and growth we’ve seen across the school. It’s been a great term filled with exciting activities, achievements, and plenty of moments to be proud of. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s learning journey!
We would also like to let you know about some upcoming changes to our student reports. While the format of the reports may look a little different, they will still include the lovely photos that showcase your child actively working towards their Individual Learning Plan (ILP) goals.
One key update is the introduction of a personalised reporting scale that reflects each student’s progress based on their individual learning priorities. This scale helps us clearly communicate how your child is developing their skills:
- P4 – Independent: Your child can complete the task on their own, remembers the skill over time, and can use it in different settings.
- P3 – Frequent: Your child can often complete the task with some help and use their skills in familiar situations.
- P2 – Occasional: Your child is learning to understand or do the task with regular support and is starting to use skills in some settings.
- P1 – Beginning: Your child is developing the foundational knowledge and is starting to engage in the task with full support.
To give you a fuller picture of how your child is learning, teachers also include information about the types of prompts used to assist your child—such as physical, verbal, gestural, or visual support. Our goal is always to help students become more independent over time, gradually reducing the level and frequency of prompting where possible.
Another update to the reports is that all key learning areas are now addressed with a clear focus for the semester. Reports will outline your child’s strengths and the next steps they will be working towards in each subject area.
Review meetings will be held at the beginning of next term to discuss your child’s progress and make any necessary changes or adjustments to their learning goals.
We look forward to sharing these updated reports with you and celebrating all the progress your child has made.
Kind Regards
Ali, Meg & Emma

Auslan Refresher
Several members of our staff have been participating in a refresher course in Auslan (Australian Sign Language), held before the start of the school day. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students, particularly those who are deaf of hard of hearing. By revisiting and strengthening their Auslan skills, staff are better equipped to communicate effectively and confidently, ensuring that all students feel seen, heard, and understood.
The refresher sessions are designed to be practical and engaging, focusing on our everyday classroom interactions, student wellbeing conversations, and inclusive teaching strategies. Staff have reported increased confidence in their signing. Our school continues to be dedicated to lifelong learning and creating a school culture where communication is accessible to all.

Little Wings
Little Wings is a not for profit organisation that provides free, professional, safe flight and ground transport services for seriously ill children in rural and regional NSW, ACT and QLD. They strive to ease the journey and help sick children access specialised medical services and treatments that are only available in major cities or towns. They do everything they can to support families by easing the financial burden, emotional strain and travel fatigue that they experience due to long-distance travel associated with receiving vital medical treatment.
Little Wings started by providing services to children undergoing cancer treatment at The Children's Hospital in Westmead, Sydney. Since then they have extended their services to assist other seriously ill children receiving treatment at;
- Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick
- Westmead Children's Hospital
- John Hunter Children's Hospital in Newcastle
- Royal Far West in Manly
- Queensland Children's Hospital
Little Wings - Help us keep them flying!
We’re excited to share that we’ve made our first contribution to Little Wings as part of their Return and Earn fundraising initiative!
This first step is just the beginning — we still need more support to help them reach their goal. So, if you have eligible bottles or cans, bring in what you can. Every item you return adds up to real help for families in need. We have several recycle bins in the bus bay for your donations.
Let’s work together to make a difference supporting Little Wings and help them continue their life-changing journeys.
