Newsletter Week 3 Term 3
From the Principal

Clare Fleming
PRINCIPAL
Dear Families and Carers,
I hope everyone is enjoying winter and staying safe and warm. We’ve had a lot of rain and wind over the last couple of weeks which can be challenging for all of us, including the children. Along with the rain, wind and cold, there has been Influenza A & B as well as RSV lurking around. Should your child be sick, please keep them at home to recover. Don’t forget to contact the school and advise.
School Parents & Citizens Association (P&C)
Kayla and Carrie, our P&C President and Secretary, continue to work consistently towards positive outcomes for our school.
Friday 1st of August was the last day for orders in our Thompson’s Pies fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who placed an order, and Carrie for collecting and submitting those orders. There was a total of $1286.10 in sales, and the school will receive $276- in fundraising as a result. Orders will arrive at school on the 21st of August. If you are interested in helping with organising the orders when they are received at school, please let myself or Office staff know, and we can pass your information on to Carrie or Kayla.
We will let you know when we hear our allocation date for the Local Matters Jar at Grill’d Charlestown as part of the Grill'd's Local Matters program, which is our next fundraising event. Kayla is also arranging for a McDonalds dinner fundraising event and will let us know the date for this shortly.
Woodrising Early Learning Centre
Last Thursday we had the first of several planned visits from a group of 4-year-old children and their teachers from the Woodrising Early Learning Centre. All children happily worked together and had the opportunity to learn more about The Very Hungry Caterpillar (thanks to our Kookaburra class teacher Danielle). Many thanks to these wonderful young children who are learning to give back to society, build authentic friendships, and participate in learning whilst supporting our students to learn, communicate and socialise. We look forward to their next visit.
After School Pick-ups
If your child is to be collected from school on any given day by a Support Worker or Carer, either during or at the end of the day, could parents please write details in the Communication Book of who will be collecting and at what time. Staff will then be able to prepare students for the collection. Any new Support Workers will need to attend the Office prior to collection and provide appropriate identification. For the safety of all students, Support Workers sign for collecting your child prior to leaving school.
Attendance
Please remember to notify the Office staff should your child be absent from school – same day notification would be appreciated to save further follow-up. Following Department of Education guidelines, same day text messages will be sent to parents/carers should a student be absent from school. The school would like to support families in any attendance concerns or issues so please let us know if you need any support.
School Uniforms
Please remember to label all school clothing especially hoodies and jackets so items are returned to the correct owner.
Warmest Regards

From the Assistant Principals

It’s been a fantastic term so far, filled with engaging learning, creative experiences, and plenty of student success across the school. We’ve loved seeing classes dive into hands-on activities like cooking, art, and community outings—all of which support meaningful learning and skill development.
We’re also heading into the time of term where teachers will be scheduling review meetings with families. These meetings are a great opportunity to reflect on student progress, celebrate achievements, and discuss goals moving forward. We value your input and look forward to working together to ensure the best outcomes for each student.
A big thank you to our dedicated staff for their thoughtful planning and to our students for their enthusiasm and effort each day. We also really appreciate the ongoing support from our families and wider school community. We’re looking forward to the exciting events still to come this Term!
Eaglehawk

Eaglehawk class has been thoroughly enjoying our Food Technology sessions this year! At the start of each Term, we sit down together and plan what we’d like to cook—sweet treats are always at the top of our list. Cooking has become more than just making food; it’s a fun and engaging way for us to explore a range of skills. We’ve been learning to identify and taste different ingredients, practise our maths through measuring and counting, and strengthen our communication by requesting items, following instructions, and taking turns. Food technology has become a weekly highlight, and we all look forward to it with big smiles (and even bigger appetites!).

Woodrising Early Learning Centre Visit
Last week, Woodrising Early Learning Centre visited our school and spent some time with a group of our students. We had a great time singing songs, reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar book and helping each other to make caterpillar hats.
These visits will occur regularly, promoting inclusion and building positive relationships with our community.
We enjoyed their visit and look forward to seeing them again in week 6.

We plan to include some basic signs in each newsletter.

Little Wings
Message from Little Wings
We are absolutely blown away by the incredible support we’ve received in 2025 for the Little Wings “Fuel Our Planes” Fundraiser.
Our ambitious goal was to recycle 250,000 containers this year — and in just the first seven months, not only did we hit that target... we smashed it! Together, we've reached an incredible 351,277 containers recycled!
We’re so grateful to all the kind-hearted students, families, small businesses, clubs, and depots. Over 70 partners across Queensland and NSW have jumped on board and helped fuel our planes, funding 23 missions in 2025.
On behalf of the Little Wings families, and our volunteer pilots and drivers — thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💙✈️
Little Wings (continued)
